The European Mitsubishi Paper group belongs to Mitsubishi Paper Mills, Tokyo (MPM), one of the leading Japanese manufacturers of coated papers, communication papers, photo-sensitive materials and wood-free paper.

In 1989 MPM founded the German company Mitsubishi Paper GmbH in Düsseldorf which is in charge of marketing solutions and systems for the European pre-press and printing industry and for the technical support of the European customers.

In 1998 MPM assumed the majority shares in both German special paper Production Plantss Mitsubishi HiTec Paper Bielefeld GmbH and Mitsubishi HiTec Paper Flensburg GmbH .

In 2002 MPM assigned this proportionate majority to its 100% subsidiary Mitsubishi Paper Holding (Europe).

In 2010 the German companies in Flensburg and Bielefeld have been merged to Mitsubishi HiTec Paper Europe GmbH.
